LWPT Kirkland: Evin Tobey, PT
Evin grew up here in Seattle, Washington where she enjoyed the beautiful mountains and bodies of water at her fingertips. She first developed an appreciation and awareness for the human body as a dancer at All That Dance. She advanced from creative ballet at age 3 to performing for the studio’s Company and working as an assistant teacher and honor club member while a senior in high school. Evin’s other main passion growing up was playing recreational and club soccer with Seattle United. Additional sports she enjoys include skiing, tennis, running and swimming. She attended Roosevelt High school before heading off to Colorado State University (CSU) where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science with a concentration in Health Promotion. CSU offered Evin the opportunity to get involved in multiple internships in the health promotion field which were instrumental in her decision to pursue physical therapy. One semester, she worked with CSU Football’s Athletic Training department where she observed players healing in a high-performance athletic setting and observed the intensity and demands of college football practices and games up close. Her final internship was back home in Seattle where she was first introduced to Lake Washington Physical Therapy (LWPT) with Dr. Joe Nance at the Kenmore clinic. After completing her internship, she stayed at LWPT Kenmore and continued to work as a physical therapy aide for a year before starting her Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon. During this program, Evin appreciated learning more about physical conditioning and started to enjoy running and swimming to manage stress and stay active. In 2021 she entered her first sprint triathlon (Seafair Triathlon) and went on to compete in the Hagg Lake Triathlon the following year. She has also raced in multiple 5Ks, one 10K, and the Portland Half Marathon. Throughout her time at Pacific University, Evin worked at Super Jock N’ Jill in Seattle and Portland Running Company in Portland, OR as a sales associate. This experience expanded her knowledge about running shoes and her ability to perform gait analyses for both runners and walkers. She is passionate about helping people perform their daily activities without pain by maximizing their coordination, strength, and balance, and ensuring that they have proper fitting gear to facilitate these goals. Evin has undergone clinical rotations in several settings from acute care in Medford, Oregon to pediatrics inpatient and outpatient in South Bend, Indiana. Evin has always loved outpatient orthopedics and helping all who walk through the door! She is grateful to have worked with wonderful mentors such as Boones Landing Physical Therapy in Wilsonville, Oregon, Aaron Jeong at Lake Washington Physical Therapy in West Seattle, and at Therapydia in Ballard for her final rotation. Evin is happy to be back in Seattle Washington where she enjoys spending time in the great outdoors and can’t wait to meet you in the clinic!

    I just bought this shoe today. Put it on and it felt great instantly. Love the thickness and cushioning of the soul. Tried several other shoes and these were by far the most comfortable and had excellent impact absorption especially in the forefront area which is where your foot hits first when jogging. Take care

      @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy Thanks... I Personally like 12 mm drop... 10 mm drop is OK 08 mm drop is minimum I'll go with... It Cost Me $1,000s to figure that out after switching from Brooks couple of years earlier to Hokas... Hoka is Great Brand... Purchased So Many of Their Road & Trail Shoes... But Even Hokas Have Great Stack Heights... I "Always" Got Plantar Fascitis... They Would Feel Great in Beginning, But Always Resulted in Plantar Fascitis... Hokas are typically 4 to 5 mm which is great for forefoot & midfoot strikers... I'm a heel stricker & the added drop in Brooks ( 7 mm more at 12 mm drop ) works best for me... I've also fallen in love with Brooks Guiderails... If do not need extra support, guiderails don't interfere... But if need them, they're there... Thanks for review...

    “Revolutionary” only in the sense that Brooks has been miles behind Saucony, Asics, Nike, New Balance, and Adidas for 5+ years, and now they at least make one competitive shoe (recently released Hyperion Max is also competitive, though $10-$20 overpriced). Brooks still doesn’t have a legit Pebax foam, which also puts them behind Topo, Altra, Mizuno, Puma, Hoka…

    • @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy
      @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy 11 місяців тому

      Great point "revolutionary for Brooks"... I was skeptical but they put a lot into this engineering. I think you will like the ride. A great daily shoe for walking the dog, runs on pavement maybe 4-6 miles, and light recovery days. The feel is like a NB Fresh Foam or Nimbus 25 but the initial feeling you have when putting those shoes on lasts much of the day with this on. I took this on a crash coarse of traveling, standing in airports, and running in high heat, altitude, and humidity. Tested surprisingly well. I my opinion the best shoe in Brooks' lineup now. I agree the Hyperion Max is the shoe I tested before this which is great like my Nike VFs. So fast watch the hamstrings.

      I had an opportunity to test their Blue Lab prototype “Aurora” and was extremely impressed with the midsole on that, but they never put that exact formula to use in a shoe as I was anticipating. That midsole was every bit as good as the Saucony super-shoe midsole and I liked it more than the New Balance and a number of other super-shoe midsoles. I’m cautiously optimistic about this new model. As far as Topo, Altra and Hoka, I’m sorry but I prefer the Hyperion Max to all of those brands’ midsole to date. Hoka is every bit as far behind as Brooks has been. I haven’t tried Mizuno or Puma so can’t speak to those.

      @@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 Have you tried the cyclone 2? It’s fantastic. As for Hoka, I haven’t tried the rocket x2 yet, but by all accounts it’s competitive with the top super shoes, and far better than anything that Brooks has ever produced, no? Cielo Road also looks promising.

    I see. The sole is much thicker than my 14. Maybe about more than 40mm stack. Currently still using my Caldera 6, very good.

    • @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy
      @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy 11 місяців тому

      Yes, It is a big leap from the previous Ghost but honestly much more comfortable. I was skeptical as I like the Nimbus 25 and Fresh Foam but this is a real winner for walking. Running is great thus far about 50 pavement miles in. At little unstable due to stack height for trail or even crushed gravel.

    • @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
      @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 11 місяців тому

      I hope it’s more responsive than the Nimbus and firmer/more resilient than Fresh Foam. I wore through one pair of Nimbus25 but they were just too bulky and heavy for me for running. I’m not looking for a walking shoe in this. I do like the Asics NovaBlast3 and Edge+ a lot but would give the Ghost Max a shot as an alternative long run shoe to the NovaBlast. The durability of the latter hasn’t been great--at just over 200 mi the outsole in the common wear areas is close to the wear limit, whereas my Brooks Hyperion Tempos and Max seem to be super durable and have exceeded that looking quite fresh and performing fine.

    • @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy
      @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy 11 місяців тому

      Good wear so far about 100 miles walking and 60 miles running. Very light... surprisingly light.@@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183

    I'm looking forward to this release. I've been wanting something like this from Brooks. I run well in the regular Ghost but the 12mm drop is abrasive at a walking pace. The Ghost Max looks like it has a Hoka Clifton/Bondi feel but with much calmer aesthetics. Hoka designs can get pretty wild.

    • @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy
      @LakeWashingtonPhysicalTherapy 11 місяців тому

      About 150 miles into this one at this point with about 100 walking and 50 running. Great feel and much better feel than the Hoka Bondi and Fresh Foam 1080.

    Hi Doc, i have a hamate fracture. My doc said I need to wear a cast for 6 weeks however if it get a nonunion they said that a surgery wont be needed because my bone is heavily crushed and wont help. Do you agree with these? Also i may suffer from arthritis if it doesnt heal well.

    I am 20 years out from a scaphoid fracture. My range of motion is about 15 percent of normal and has never improved or gotten worse over time. I cannot do push-ups or play basketball. When using a keyboard and mouse, I must keep my elbow lower than my wrist to prevent wrist fatigue. Those images of future wrist arthritis are pretty scary. So far, I do not suffer discomfort very often. I would like to know if there are surgical options that could improve my range of motion and possibly improve grip strength.

    • @avigoodman6423
      @avigoodman6423 2 роки тому

      Good question. If your fracture was that long ago, and your motion has been decreased for a long time, it's fairly unlikely that a surgical procedure at this point would actually improve your range of motion. Often, the goal will be to prevent progression in the shorter term, but if the scaphoid did not heal properly and went on to nonunion or malunion, the aim is generally to minimize pain and salvage what good joints remain, since those are what allow for motion.
